Why Is Boudoir So Expensive?

You see your friend post AMAZING boudoir pictures on her Instagram. She’s absolutely gushing about her experience with this photographer and you’re totally hooked in, now you want to do one too! You haven’t been feeling sexy and confident and you think this is going to be a game-changer in your self-love efforts.
Your friend points you in her photographer’s direction and you send her an email (YAY!)
She emails you back with a Welcome Guide and you scroll through and see, at the end, her price list.
Your jaw may or may not have hit the floor.
Her midline package is at least $1000 and you have no idea how your friend could have spent that money on pictures.
Sound familiar?
So why is boudoir so expensive?
I’m positive you could find a boudoir photographer who only charges $100 per session, but when you see their work, it doesn’t seem nearly as professional as the photographer your friend chose. You’ll keep scouring the internet and inquiring with other photographers whose work is acceptable, you might even book a session, but be careful when you do. Here are. a few reasons why you want to invest in a professional boudoir photographer:
This isn’t our hobby. We are professionals and many of us are exclusively shooting boudoir. Professionalism comes with a higher price tag, but a price tag that’s worth it when you’re participating in something so vulnerable and personal.
We’ve invested in education. We’ve spent hundreds (and sometimes thousands) on workshops, guides, books and other educational materials. We’ve studied, done our homework will continue to do so as our business and our clientele grows.
We’ve invested in the proper equipment. We spent hours researching what cameras, lenses, tripods, flashes, and more to make sure these images are a work of art - not just run-of-the-mill pictures (this can also be true of hobbyists too!)
It’s our specialty. Many of us have tossed aside all other types of photography to focus exclusively on boudoir and providing an exceptional, luxurious boudoir photography session for each of our clients. We don’t shoot anything else.
This is our career. When you go to work, you get paid a salary that covers your cost of living and most of the needs and wants you have in life. We need a salary too, outside of expenses and overhead costs, to make that same kind of living.
We love it. We absolutely love what we do. We spend countless hours learning from our colleagues, our mentors, our peers and most importantly, our clients. We give everything we have to each and every session and it isn’t easy work: it requires vision and sensitivity to any insecurities or physical struggles a client may be experiencing.
Not everybody can do what we do. A boudoir session can cause more damage to the psyche than before a client came in. Boudoir takes a delicate approach and incredible amounts of experience and practice. I am not the same photographer I once was when I started out and I’m glad to say I’ve grown for the better. I’ve developed an intimate knowledge of the female mind and body and the connection the two have to each other. From sun up to sun down, my clients and the experience I offer is always on my mind at one point or another.
So yes, that price tag seems high and it seems scary and unrealistic and crazy to spend that kind of money (or more!) on a boudoir shoot. But consider this: you won’t find images like that of yourself at Target or Walmart or TJMaxx. This is custom artwork of yourself that you can look back on and remember that this is who you are: a beautiful, amazing, brave, strong and incredible person who is worthy of love and confidence and can rock a bedsheet. Boudoir allows you the perspective of your parter, it gives you an outside look of how incredible you are without using a mirror or a scale.
No matter who you choose, boudoir is worth the investment. All you have to do is take a leap of faith, not for us, but for yourself, and see what incredible feelings can come out of this extraordinary luxury boudoir experience.
